Why wicker hampers are perfect for this Christmas

Posted by The Wares Team on 12th Dec 2022

With Christmas fast approaching, our customers are already looking for gift wrapping and presentation ideas to make the most of their homemade creations! So step forward one of our top-selling lines every year at this time - beautiful wicker hampers!

We always buy in lots of these beautiful multi-tasking wonders in the run up to the festive season, as they really do tick so many boxes, especially when compared to single-use plastic, which simply ends up in landfill. Here are some of our favourite reasons to choose a wicker hamper or two for your gift presentation this year:

1. Wicker is eco-friendly and lasts for years if it's well cared for.

2. When your wicker starts to break or is no longer fit for purpose, it can simply go into the compost bin and biodegrade for next year's garden projects.

3. It's made entirely from renewable materials - grass!

4. Wicker is kind to the environment and contains no chemicals. This means that it doesn't end up in landfill, as plastic does, and there is no risk of it leeching damaging chemicals into the ecosystem - again, as plastic can do.

5. Wicker is very beautiful and looks so traditional. Decorate it with ribbons, tags and pretty paper shred and your gifts will really look special.

6. Wicker baskets and boxes are also a gift in their own right. Your lucky recipient can use their wicker hamper to regift items next year, create displays in the home, store kitchen items and basically enjoy a vintage-styled storage container in their home.

7. Wicker is highly affordable too! Our wicker hamper range covers all price points and sizes, so there really is every reason to love it.

How to pack the perfect wicker hamper

1. Take a look through the wide selection of wicker hampers, baskets and boxes for sale and find your perfect product. You can see our full range of wicker ware here: https://www.waresofknutsford.co.uk/wickerware/

2. Choose your accessories, such as colourful paper shred for an eco-friendly filler option that the contents will sit on, cello to cover the basket safely and colourful ribbons, tags, bows and any other decorative items you fancy. You can even get beautiful kiln-dried wood 'wool' which is the ultimate in eco-friendly choices and really beautiful to look at. Check out our range of supplies here: https://www.waresofknutsford.co.uk/jar-and-bottle-packaging/shredding/

3. Pick your supplies. May we suggest here that you have fun creating themed hampers designed to suit each recipient and featuring lots of lovely handmade items? For example:

- Flavoured herb salt, BBQ sauce, chilli powder, Himalayan salt, a cookbook, a folded apron and metal tongs for a BBQ fan.

- Pretty coloured Epsom salts in glass jars, with aromatherapy oils to create different scents. You could make a beauty hamper with homemade coffee body scrub, energising grapefruit and orange body lotion made with shea butter, and relaxing bath salts with lavender and rose-infused oil. Handmade soaps are also lovely.

- A wicker hamper filled with cookies, homemade truffles, homemade fudge, perhaps some English tea bags and a pretty china cup and saucer for an afternoon tea lover.

- A wicker hamper filled with fat quarter fabric squares or jelly rolls, colourful ribbons, embellishments and buttons, threads and a fabric crafting book for a crafter.

- A hamper filled with individually wrapped tea bags or coffee samples from across the world, with a tasting guide and a homemade cake.

- A gardener's hamper filled with heritage seeds, garden gloves, twine and labels, bulbs and other favourites.

4. Layer up your hamper

Add a layer of paper shred or wood shaving wool, and place your gifts on top. The shred will protect any glass or delicate items and present them beautifully. Add ribbons, tags and decorative items to suit the recipient. You could buy plain cardboard tags and stamp them with festive motifs or hand embellish tags. Use calligraphy script in metallic pens, real velvet ribbon, sprigs of Evergreen and miniature Christmas trees - whatever takes your fancy. Finally, protect the hamper with a layer of cello wrap. You could also simply wrap the hamper loosely with a sheet of brown decorated paper to cover and protect its contents.
