Winter Sangria recipe

If you think Sangria should only be drunk on a hot balcony in Spain on a tropical August evening, think again! sang.pngThis cool winter punch with a spiced kick is easy to make and best of all, it can be created in advance and kept in the fridge whilst you prepare all the other elements of your Christmas party.

This sangria is easily adaptable into alcoholic or non-alcoholic tasty alternatives. To serve 4-6 guests, you will need:

1 large apple, sliced into segments

1 large orange, cut into slices

2 cinnamon sticks

2 vanilla pods

1 ½ bottles of your favourite red wine (use a 0% wine like Bonne Nouvelle Rouge or red grape juice if you prefer a non-alcoholic alternative)

350ml sparkling water

300ml cranberry juice (pomegranate juice is a great alternative if you are looking for something a bit different!)

Crushed ice or ice cubes

100ml brandy (optional)

White sugar to taste

Once you have collected your ingredients, put on your favourite Christmas album and follow these easy steps:

  1. Pop the apple segments, orange slices, cinnamon sticks wine, sparkling water, cranberry juice and brandy (if required) into a large jug or clip top jar (see our top pick here https://www.waresofknutsford.co.uk/3-litre-clip-top-jar/ )
  2. Slit open the vanilla pods and pop the seed into the mix.
  3. Have a sneaky taste and sweeten with sugar!
  4. Stir well with a large wooden spoon and stand in the fridge for 2-3 hours.
  5. When you are ready to serve, impress your guests by serving the sangria in one of our drinking jam jars https://www.waresofknutsford.co.uk/jars/drinking-jam-jars/ . These handled jars are ideal for avoiding chilly hands whilst enjoying this cool winter drink.
  6. Start with a base of crushed ice and use a ladle to share the fruit between the glasses.
  7. Top up each glass with ladles of sangria, add a straw and enjoy!
