How to make scented candles
The easiest way to start making your own candles for the first time is to buy a ready-made kit with wax pellets and taper wicks. You simply melt the pellets in a double broiler until the max is soft enough to pour and then secure a wick and taper in place until the wax sets and holds it upright. During this process, you can add fragrance oils or essential oils, colours using food dye or glitter, and even extras such as rose petals, dried lavender or small sprigs of evergreen. A really simple and effective candle to begin with is a winter white and vanilla candle. You can make this with soy or coconut wax and vanilla fragrance oil. This particular fragrance holds really well in all waxes and releases a superbly comforting and familiar scent that will fragrance the entire room
Top tips for making successful candles
It's easy to try your hand at candles but as you get more experienced, you might want to make more complex blends and formulate your own custom fragrances. A 6% fragrance mix is common for a gently scented candle, but some will go up to 12%. You'll also find that you naturally prefer working with some waxes more than others and find plenty of inspiration online for different candle additions and decorations.
