Easter Activities with Glass Jars

Posted by The Wares Team on 18th Mar 2024

The Easter holidays are coming up and school will be out for a glorious two weeks of Spring fun! But for parents, the Easter holidays mean trying to come up with ideas to keep kids entertained and occupied. So why not make the most of the Bank Holiday and enjoy some family craft time together?

Why glass jars are great for crafting

Kids love arts and crafts, but many of the materials can be expensive, especially if you're buying ready-made kits. However, with basic supplies such as glass bottles and jars, coloured paper or felt, glue and glass-suitable marker pens, you've got a ready-made stash of materials that will provide hours of fun and create beautiful Easter decorations in the process.

Easter Bunny Sweet Jars

This tutorial is based on basic items bought from Dollar Tree in the USA, but you can find similar stores easily here in the UK. With this craft, you glue an Easter character, such as a bunny, onto the lid of your glass jar, spray paint it a cute pastel colour, then fill the jar with delicious Easter sweets before screwing the lid back on. It's easy and very effective and will make a fantastic gift too: https://passionatepennypincher.com/dollar-tree-easter-craft/.

Baby Chick Jars

Use small-sized glass jars and cover them in yellow glitter paint before adding googly eyes and orange craft paper feet and beaks to create Easter chicks. These jars can then be used as decorations or filled with treats. Here's a tutorial to get you started: https://crazylittleprojects.com/easy-easter-candy-jars/.

Mason Jar Posy Vases

Why not buy glass paint or use spray paint to decorate basic glass jars, such as Mason jars, with Easter egg-styled shapes and patterns to create pretty posy jars? You can fill these with fresh spring flowers or foliage and then use them to decorate your Easter table. Alternatively, take smaller-sized glass jars, spray paint them in pastel shades and then plant mini succulents inside for a fantastic table decoration or gift. Glass jar bath salts

Easter is also a great opportunity for some 'me time' so why not have a go at making your own spring-themed bath salts using Epsom salts, food colouring and essential oils to fragrance the end result. You simply combine all of the ingredients in a large bowl and play around with different colour and fragrance combinations to create an effect that you like. For example, lavender oil is calming, orange and peppermint are zesty and invigorating and geranium and jasmine are romantic and relaxing. Once you've made your bath salts, layer them up in a glass jar and add the lid. You can also print out tags that explain what the contents are, and line them up in your bathroom to delight any guests and create a home spa effect.

Easter fairy lights

Glass jars and glass bottles are ideal for making fairy lights, too, and these are great for having Easter Fun. You can fill glass jars with battery-operated tealights that create a realistic warm glow and flickering effect and coil up battery-operated tealights in glass bottles to create fairy jars. Decorate your jars with Easter motifs and add ribbons for something personal and creative that will add warmth, light and a creative touch to your home over the holidays.

Chocolate bunny jars

For Easter Fun that kids will love, fill glass jars with colourful paper shreds and then place chocolate bunnies on each 'nest' inside the jar. On the lid, add your choice of decorations. You could add yellow pom-poms and use them to make chicks or layer up circles of tissue paper to make paper flowers, for example. Use printable labels to add notes and names to each bunny jar if you're planning to gift them. These will make a far more personal and thoughtful gift than a standard Easter egg that you'd buy in a shop, and you can adjust the contents to suit each recipient, too. For example, if your loved ones have a dairy intolerance, choose dark chocolate bunnies, or switch out the chocolate entirely for sugar mice or colourful jelly mini Easter eggs.
