What is a Button Safety Lid?

A button safety lid features a raised button in the centre that drops down once a correct vacuum seal has formed. After filling and heat processing your jars, the button should depress as the contents cool, providing a simple visual indication that the jar has sealed successfully. 

Helpful hand application tips

These lids can be applied by machine or by hand. Follow these simple tips for the best seal, or read our Guide to Twist Off Lids for more detailed advice.

• Do not overtighten – a quarter turn is all that's needed.

• Check the lid is correctly positioned and not cross-threaded.

• For best results, lids can be gently warmed to a maximum of 60°C before application.

• Apply firm downward pressure while tightening.

• Leave approximately 10mm (5%) headspace when filling jars to achieve the best vacuum seal.
